Why Derrick Rose will wear 25 in NY

As first reported by the Chicago Tribune, the Bulls shipped Derrick Rose to the New York Knicks for Robin Lopez, Jose Calderon and Jerian Gtant. Is he going to be revitalized and inspired with a new team, or, is it just going to be more of the same Rose we’ve seen for the last few years in Chicago, but just in a different uniform?

Butler, a two-time All-Star, emerged as the Bulls’ leader during Rose’s absence, and was named to the NBA All-Defensive second team for the third straight year.

He has played in 39 percent of possible games since the beginning of the 2012-13 season and hasn’t regained the form he showed before the injury. He has failed to play more than 66 games in a regular season since 2011. NY also acquired the services of reserve guard Justin Holiday and Chicago’s second round selection in the 2017 NBA Draft. The core of Rose, Porzingis and Carmelo Anthony should be enough to allow the Knicks to contend in the Eastern Conference next season. According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, some within the organization have now set their sights set on another Bulls player.

Faried, who has three years and $39 million left on his contract, averaged 12.5 points and 8.7 rebounds in 67 games last season.

The Atlanta Hawks traded point guard Jeff Teague to the Indiana Pacers as part of a 3-team deal that sends point guard George Hill from Indiana to the Utah Jazz, who will send the 12th pick in Thursday’s National Basketball Association draft to Atlanta.

New coach Jeff Hornacek said recently the Knicks needed a point guard and Rose was one of the NBA’s best before multiple knee injuries slowed the former No. 1 pick’s career.

Aches and all, Rose is a player who could still explode for 30 points at any given night. If the point guard resembles anything close to his old self, he’ll be inked to a new deal.

Calderon, who turns 35 in September, was New York’s starting point guard and averaged 7.6 points and a career-worst 4.1 assists per game last season. Rose is expected to be an upgrade as the team transitions from the triangle offense to a quicker attack under Hornacek.
