The Blue Valley West grad won a gold medal in the 4 x 200 meter relay at the 2012 London Olympics. “The challenge is just to execute what I know she’s capable of doing when that moment comes”.

“It would bring a lot of name recognition to the program”, he said.

The CenturyLink Center is hosting U.S. Olympic Trials for the third consecutive cycle. Why do it at such an advanced age?

“I think there is systemic (doping), but that (Russia) is not the only nation that has had patterns of behavior that seem to go beyond the norm”. “I moved up quite a bit then, and I am hoping to do the same this time around”. “I had a lot of fun and they knew I was going for it, so they were hooting and hollering”. (However, there may be a way around that ban for some Russian track athletes.) FINA, the governing body of swimming, is one of several Olympic sports entities asked by the International Olympic Committee to scrutinize Russian athletes.

Ryan Lochte had previously sworn off contesting the 400m individual medley – where he is the reigning Olympic champion – at the 2016 Trials. He trained with the Northwestern University club team – Northwestern Aquatics – the summer before the 2012 trials and qualified in the 100- and 200-butterfly events.

The University of MI men’s and women’s swimming and diving program will send 37 current or former student-athletes to U.S. Olympic Trials, which run from Sunday, June 26, to Sunday, July 3, at the CenturyLink Center.

But what was so impressive about Yemm’s swim was that it came after little to no training. She will try to make the U.S. Olympic team for Rio. “They are excited about it and have been swimming very well right now”. In addition to his three signature events (100m and 200m butterflies, 200m individual medley), he has entered the 100m and 200m freestyles. Lochte can handle the rest, including the mental part. “We’ll have up to 75 massage therapists serving the swimmers”, Cliff said. “You have to be able to train all four strokes”.

“It’s kind of like just going there, and I feel like embracing the entire experience and getting to watch these swimmers who in the next four years we want to aspire to be”, said Herb, a Miami (Ohio) recruit. “But I honestly haven’t really thought about the next four years”. She said she is going for the experience.

“It’s the United States’ most dominating event, so it’s a blessing and a curse to have it be your best event“, Katz said. “I’ve seen him pull off some incredible things in that race”.

It’s hard to imagine the big four of Phelps, Ledecky, Franklin and Lochte slipping entirely out of the picture.

Lochte, an 11-time Olympic medalist, is aiming to become the third US male to qualify for four Olympics, joining Phelps and Irvine’s Jason Lezak. “And swimming against these people, you’ve got to say they’re just regular people”. Every session is sold out, with crowds of 14,000-plus expected.

“It was a long travel day“, Lochte said during a pre-meet press conference on Friday. “Compared to a normal swim meet, it’s just blown up”. But that’s just where I want to be.
