Cabrera singles in 9th, White Sox beat Tigers 5-4

A lot of weird, wild stuff went down over the weekend with White Sox ace Chris Sale, and the Red Sox were part of the tornado of stories.

The White Sox typically let starting pitchers choose the team uniform for the games they start. Some will be amusing, like Sale’s jersey-cutting incident, while others will be nothing of the sort (unless you’re into some really dark comedy). Sale was openly critical of team president Ken Williams during spring training when he said the son of teammate Adam LaRoche would no longer be allowed in the clubhouse. I only get more passionate about it because I know that it’s not easy winning a championship. “I think they’re about playing and we’ll go with that until something needs to be address”.

From their two-straight wins over the Tigers to the start of their Crosstown Cup series with the Cubs, it pales in comparison to the pre-game jersey incident with starter Chris Sale.

Second baseman Brett Lawrie missed a fourth straight start but could play, Ventura said. When we made the decision as a team not to pay it’s because we want that clubbie to get the money he deserves.

“Sale felt the uniform would have impacted his performance, saying, “[The ’76 uniforms] are uncomfortable and unorthodox. I’ll disagree with Jim Caple’s ranking of worst-ever unis and just come out and say they put everything else in the shade when it comes to ugly.

Ventura said Sale will not start the second game against the Tigers on Sunday; Jose Quintana will stay on schedule and get the nod. “If the players don’t feel comfortable 100 percent about what we are doing to win the game, and we have an easy fix – it was as easy as hanging up another jersey and everyone was fine”. “I like it here, and I want to win here”.

Manager Robin Ventura says he isn’t sure of Sale’s plans while he is away from the team, but he expects him to be ready for the outing at Wrigley Field. He immediately decided that Sale was being scratched from that night’s lineup and that the team would have to string together performances by relief pitchers to get through the game.

“I love the guys in our clubhouse”, Eaton said.

White Sox starter Chris Sale was scratched from Saturday’s start against the Tigers due to a clubhouse incident. Right-hander Matt Albers started in Sale’s place and the White Sox planned to use multiple relievers.

When taking that into consideration, you can understand Sale’s readiness to become the latest player to protest a throwback uni.

White Sox third baseman Todd Frazier said: “I can’t really talk about that”.

BLUE JAYS 2, MARINERS 0 (at Toronto) – J.A. Happ (13-3) and three relievers combined on a one-hitter, Edwin Encarnacion hit a solo home run and Toronto avoided a three-game sweep.
