This is despite the Rock Island Police Department confirming they arrested the controversy-prone Allenby in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The 45-year-old Australian golfer was arrested for criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct at 2:30 a.m. early Saturday morning outside Jumer’s Casino and Hotel in Rock Island, Ill.
“He has been released”, the spokesman said.
Robert Allenby during the second round of the John Deere Classic.
When contacted by USA Today Sports on Sunday, Allenby told the newspaper: “I don’t know anything that’s going on, so you can say whatever you want”.
Allenby missed the cut of the John Deere Classic by three strokes after shooting even-par 142. Allenby, who had missed the cut in the Sony Open, claimed to have been abducted and beaten.
Allenby has now been released from custody after posing part of his $US1500 ($1948) bond. While that claim has never been verified – in fact, his former caddie said Allenby fabricated it – a Hawaii man was later sentenced to five years in prison for using Allenby’s credit cards and identification.
