“One of Koko’s favorite musicians, Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers came to visit”, the foundation wrote on its website.

“This is just the greatest thing that could ever happen”, the bassist said of the experience. Koko kisses the instrument’s fretboard multiple times, while Flea calls it “the day that I will never forget in my life”.

At the session end, Flea said the gorilla could have his bass – but not the amp.

Flea also expressed admiration for a T-shirt that showcased Koko on it.

The animal, which understands around 2,000 English words, even appeared to manage a riff or two. He added, “What I needed was one of these bad ass koko shirts!“.

Flea also shared photos and videos on Instagram advocating for Gorilla conservation and encouraging its fans to help donate to the Gorilla Foundation.

The Getaway, the latest album from Red Hot Chili Peppers, is out now. The bassist looked on as the 45-year-old Koko plucked, fiddled and nuzzled the instrument.

Koko the gorilla, who’s become particularly friendly with Flea, was filmed sitting with the Chili’s co founder and strumming on his guitar. She really liked Williams and was mournful when she learned that he had died. It’s a little hard to tell when the story is about a guy named Flea meeting a talking gorilla.
