Michael Phelps Finishes His Olympic Career With Gold No. 23

NBC’s Saturday night Olympic coverage, featuring Phelps’ last swim, posted a 16.4 overnight rating. This was Logan’s third gold medal, which is the most golds ever earned by a USA women’s rower. Placing second was Great Britain with 3:29.24 and third was Australia with 3:29.93.

And with Saturday’s victories, Team U.S.A. has had another record setting summer in the pool as well, taking a total of 33 medals (beating the 2000 and 2012 records of 31), and tying the record for team gold medals, at16.

The second week of the Olympics kicked off with Michael Phelps winning gold medal No. 23, more shade thrown in the war of words and Puerto Rico won its first ever gold.

It was the USA’s 50th consecutive victory in a major worldwide FIBA event and 22nd consecutive Olympic victory.

Johnson and Boomer were front and center in Rio, Phelps sealing the celebration of his longed for 200m fly victory with a tender kiss for the baby boy as the Olympic crowd roared.

Nobody needs any convincing that Michael Phelps is the greatest Olympian of all time, but we’d like to share something outrageous in case we’re wrong on that count. My swimming career might be over, but I have this future ahead of me, and I can just turn the page and start whatever I want.

The final two individual golds of the games went to Pernille Blume of Denmark in the 50m freestyle, her country’s first swimming victory since 1948, and Italy’s Gregorio Paltrinieri in the grueling 1,500m free.
