Beware! The Stage Is All Kanye West’s at This Year’s VMAs

Although the singer is now spending time in New York City, Swift will not be in the crowd when the VMAs return to the Big Apple, a source close to the VMAs and Swift exclusively confirms to PEOPLE. Winners are decided by the fans, who cast their votes online for their favorite artists.

Sources told the website that producers are giving West four minutes to do as he sees fit ― which could mean anything. As Billboard noted, “Anytime West is invited to the party, the internet explodes”. As for the pre-show, DJ Khaled, Charlemagne Tha God and Lizzo will all co-host. Last year’s event saw West receive an award from Taylor Swift and declare that he is running for President in 2020. Earlier that year, it seemed the feud had been settled, when Yeezy sent the 26-year-old pop star flowers after she presented him the Video Vanguard Award at the 2015 VMAs. Since the release of her first album, Swift has unfailingly dropped an album every two years in either October or November, with a first single hitting iTunes at the end of the summer.

Rapper Future will also be making his VMA performance debut, while The Chainsmokers will perform their single “Closer”. The video for the NSFW tune – featuring nude lookalikes of Swift, West, Kim Kardashian and others sleeping in bed – is nominated in several categories, including the coveted Video of the Year award.

Adele is no slouch this year, either, as she earned eight nominations, second only to Beyonce. Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele will serve as the master of ceremonies while fellow comedians Nicole Byer and Jay Pharoah will serve as correspondents during the broadcast.
