Hillary Clinton’s campaign was forced to disclose she’s been battling pneumonia and canceled a West Coast trip after she suddenly collapsed following a 9/11 memorial event in New York City – an episode that poured gasoline on the social media flame war over her health between her backers and those of rival Donald Trump.
Video posted by a bystander to Twitter appeared to show Clinton extremely unsteady and supported by aides, being helped from the curb into a vehicle.
In Cleveland last week, Clinton suffered a two-minute coughing fit last week, which she blamed on allergies.
The former secretary of state’s doctor, Lisa R. Bardack released a statement revealing the diagnosis on Sunday evening, The Hill daily reported. The doctor said Clinton was put on antibiotics and told to rest.
The statement says Clinton became overheated at the 9/11 event and dehydrated, but is now rehydrated.
She was seen emerging two hours later and told reporters: “I’m feeling great”.
The Democratic nominee was scheduled to attend fundraisers on Monday and Tuesday in California, and tape an episode of Ellen DeGeneres‘ talk show.
It is unclear whether she intends to continue campaigning closer to home, or whether her plans to campaign in Las Vegas on Wednesday will also be disrupted.
She joked to the crowd “every time I think about Trump I get allergic”.
Hillary Clinton has called off a campaign visit to California after suffering a health episode at the September 11 memorial in NY. She has been Clinton’s personal doctor since 2001.
When asked by a reporter about Clinton’s health incident, he responded: “I don’t know anything”.
“According to my source, who was 15 feet away … she was clearly having some kind of medical episode, stumbled and almost fell as her knees buckled and she came off that curb, and then was helped by her protective detail into her van and left Ground Zero within the last 30 minutes”, he said.
The temperature in NY was about 27 degrees Celsius, combined with high humidity. She waved and posed for a photo with a young girl before getting into her motorcade. She also has experienced deep vein thrombosis, a clot usually in the leg, and takes a blood thinner to prevent new clots. The person “said something like, ‘We’re going to move now, ‘” Crowley said. But the 70-year-old has refused to release his own health records. The physician, Dr. Harold Bornstein, later said he wrote the letter in just five minutes, while a Trump limousine waited outside his office.
