Seattle coach Pete Carroll: Russell Wilson has ankle sprain

September 26 08:18 2016

Hobbled by an ankle injury, Wilson pulled off another late rally, throwing a 2-yard touchdown pass to Doug Baldwin with 31 seconds left and giving the Seattle Seahawks a 12-10 win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Seattle’s Wilson turned his right ankle while trying to avoid Suh and limped through two plays before seeking assistance from team trainers when the Dolphins took possession of the ball.

The Seahawks have one of the league’s top defenses but are reliant on Wilson to carry and lead this team. Wilson continued to play through the end of that series then quickly had his ankle re-taped on the sideline. It sent Wilson flying, and he ended up fumbling.

-The Dolphins lost two starting defensive linemen – end Mario Williams and tackle Earl Mitchell – in the second half, which may have had something to do with Miami’s inability to stop the Seahawks on their final drive.

“In that moment, I’m thinking ‘what is he doing?’ but he has shown the propensity to do miraculous things and that play was no different”.

Andy Dalton threw for 366 yards and a touchdown to A.J. Green, who caught 12 passes for 180 yards to help the Bengals beat the Jets for the first time in 10 meetings in New Jersey. Foster was held 38 yards and 13 carries and no rush longer than 9 yards.

That, too, is who they are. Some players would walk past and enter the conversation, some were sleeping and some were in it the whole time. That’s not the Seahawk style.

It’s also fair to acknowledge the quality of Miami’s defensive front.

Perhaps just a little more offense might be enough next week. It is expected that Seattle will add another QB to the roster just in case Wilson is not available to coach Pete Carroll for the Week 2 division showdown against Los Angeles.

“The one thing about Russell is he wants that feeling, he wants that pressure, so I went up to him personally and told him about it”, explained running back Thomas Rawls.

Wilson cited the team’s poise and toughness.

Asked if it’s a high ankle sprain, Carroll said, “There’s a little bit of everything, but nothing’s very serious”.

From the day he got here, Wilson always has had the requisite poise.

Seahawks players and coaches all stood, locked arm in arm during the national anthem in Sunday’s season opener versus Miami at CenturyLink Field.
