Siemian’s 4 TD passes lead Broncos over Bengals 29-17

September 26 23:00 2016

The Denver Broncos (2-0) are coming from a 34-20 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2.Trevor Siemian completed 22 of 33 passes for 266 yards and one interception.

Three plays later, Siemian and wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders connected for a 41-yard touchdown to put the Broncos ahead 10-7 just a little over a minute into the second quarter.

The Denver Broncos saw on film this week that the Cincinnati Bengals cornerbacks might be susceptible to the double-move on Sunday. Trevor Siemian had a big day throwing the football. After needing to settle for field goals on three red zone drives in Week 2 and netting a zero percent red zone efficiency rating in Week 2, the Bengals were able to score touchdowns on two of four red zone opportunities in Week 3, good for 50 percent. But they did not end the drive that with a touchdown.

It is week 3 of the National Football League season, and this will be the first look at the Denver Broncos on the road. However, from there, Siemian and company would go on to absolutely light it up, putting up 26 points. Instead, the intended pass play broke down and Dalton had to throw the ball away to avoid being sacked. The Broncos’ offensive line overall a year ago was an island of misfit toys, with late additions and street free agents.

“Loved it”, Siemian said of the play call. “. Even in the fourth quarter, you should have seen him in the huddle; he came in, took command on the huddle, and even on the deep ball to Demaryius, he said, ‘We’re about to go for the gusto, ‘ so we definitely believe in him”.

Siemian asserted himself as a leader capable of leading the defending Super Bowl champions against another playoff contender.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease, right?

The young quarterback has made some mistakes, and according to coach Gary Kubiak, it’s because he’s still adjusting to the National Football League game. Demaryius Thomas looked like his 2015 self with 5 receptions for 90 yards to lead the way for the Denver receiving core.

The real breakout was Sanders.

On Wednesday, both Sanders and Thomas expressed some frustrations with their involvement in the offense in the Broncos’ 2-0 start. The Broncos adjusted, and Cincinnati managed only 68 yards rushing in the last three quarters. He hit eight different receivers with passes. Remember, this series includes the 278-yard rushing game by Corey Dillon, an 87-yard tipped pass to Brandon Stokley, a bad snap on a PAT that would’ve forced overtime, Dre Kirkpatrick picking off Peyton Manning twice to clinch the playoffs and Brandon McManus shanking the overtime victor. The player to key in on is Bengals center Russell Bodine, who will be matched up with Sylvester Williams.

The Broncos finished Week 3 with just 52 yards on the ground. Despite suffering a few in-game injuries against the Bengals, the Broncos injury report is shorter than it was Sunday morning. Kubiak and company were content to air it out, however, and the proof is in the pudding.

He was 21 of 31 for 201 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. Wade Phillips’ unit sacked Dalton four times and picked him off once.

Broncos safety T.J. Ward hurt his neck late in the first quarter but returned.

The 23-year-old quarterback is starting for the injured Tony Romo, who is slowly progressing from his back problem.
