Many thought the 28-year-old would leave Old Trafford following the arrival of Jose Mourinho at the club, having being sold by the Portuguese while playing for Chelsea.
Before the game Mourinho said that the England skipper appeared to have been taken aback by the scrutiny and criticism directed at him this season.
The omission of Rooney sparked inevitable suggestions that he would look for a move away from United, but his advisers have made it clear that he is content to remain at the club and fight for his place in Mourinho’s line-up.
United, who came into the match on the back of three successive defeats, responded by firing four first-half goals past Leicester, with Chris Smalling, Mata, Rashford and Paul Pogba on target.
He was the same before the game when we were all getting ready.
“He is often the most vocal in the dressing room and he was the same (against Leicester)”.

A first-half meltdown from Leicester saw the game effectively ended when Jose Mourinho’s side went into the break with a four-goal advantage. “I say one thing – it is at the end, at the end we will see”.
And he wants the team to win their next two games to go into the worldwide break on the front foot. “We don’t want any more blips, hopefully we have had our last blip for quite a while now”.
“We’ve had our blip hopefully for quite a while”.
Rooney is quoted as saying by Sky Sports: “For me, I think it’s the ideal draw”.
Smalling and his teammates clearly got the message, enjoying the occasion after a taxing period. “[Juan] Mata thinks football very fast and [Jesse] Lingard and [Marcus] Rashford gave a great intensity for the team, but I prefer to say that my team as a team played well”.
