Mickelson promises prepared US team at Ryder Cup

CHASKA, Minnesota United States captain Davis Love III gave an indication of his pairings for this week’s Ryder Cup by sending out his players for practice on Wednesday in nearly identical groups for a second day in a row.

“He (Woods) plays a very high-spin ball and I play a very low-spin ball, and we had to come up in two days with a solution”.

Oops, sorry Tiger, only players are allowed.

Part of that has been to unite rivals Woods and Mickelson, whose most notable Cup moment in 2004 came when “Lefty” hooked a crucial tee shot left into dense trees in an alternate shot foursomes match and Woods gave him a death stare for the ages. Instead of carrying a driver, he was holding a hot drink.

There’s no questioning Mickelson’s passion for the Ryder Cup.

“We ended up not playing well”.

“Everyone is kind of contributing whichever way they can”, said Stenson, whose record is 5-4-2 over two previous Ryder Cups. Beating the US has become so routine Rory McIlroy literally overslept four years ago, showed up a few minutes before his Sunday tee time, took a few practice swings and four hours later won. “We know what we have”. Woods declined interviews coming into the Ryder Cup, preferring to keep his role in the background. “I was sort of in this trance just listening to everything that he was saying and I’m sort of thinking, this is all the stuff that he’s probably said to Manchester United teams over the years”. It has been really exciting for us, because we’ve been on so many teams for so many years, to have this much input and involvement in the process. He said a Canadian caller had said the Americans needed to play with more swagger, and Love agreed with him. “It’s just unfortunate that, you know, in that nice conversation, that it got misconstrued”. Mickelson and Woods were part of that task force that agreed to bring Love back.
