Conor McGregor to fight at UFC 205 in Lightweight title fight

September 28 23:53 2016

Johnson is coming off a first-round knockout of Dustin Poirier at UFC Fight Night 94 (see it again here), giving him his first win in more than one year.

The match will be for the UFC lightweight title, an original target when McGregor was supposed to meet former champion Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC 196.

McGregor will look to become the first man to hold two world title belts in two different UFC weight divisions.

The bout is the third title fight to grace the UFC 205 fight card.

Dressed in a sharp pin-striped blue suit, the 28-year-old predicted he would knock Alvarez out in the first round on November 12 to become the first UFC fighter to hold titles in two weight classes simultaneously.

Conor McGregor and Eddie Alvarez face-off as UFC president Dana White breaks them up at the UFC 205 press conference at The Theater at Madison Square Garden on September 27, 2016 in New York City.

Dana White finally confirmed the news we were all waiting for; Eddie Alvarez will be putting his lightweight crown on the line against the featherweight king, Conor McGregor.

White even went on to say that Alvarez would defend his title against Khabib Nurmagomedov. For Conor McGregor, this fight grants him his wish of becoming the first ever simultaneous two-division champion in the UFC.

However, McGregor will instead do battle with lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 at Madison Square Garden in November.

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor was a bit subdued after his loss to Nate Diaz in March. After having his successful rematch at UFC 202, he started another race for 155 lbs belt, and now he’s got his chance. That bout is scheduled to headline UFC 205.

Speaking at the promotion’s press conference in New York, White confirmed that Nurmagomedov will face the No.10 ranked lightweight Michael Johnson, who is now coming off a TKO victory against Dustin Poirier.
