The previous record of 80.6 million was set when former presidents Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan debated in 1980. They don’t account for viewers who watched the debate online – and NPR’s media correspondent David Folkenflik has been crunching those numbers. Ms Clinton’s beaming smile during the debate became a viral meme on Monday evening. “Everyone, I just need to speak from the heart here”, he said.
“You just block it out”, he said.
Who won the first debate? The biggest audience in US television history was the 114.4 million people who watched the 2015 Super Bowl between New England and Seattle.
There are two more presidential debates to come between the candidates – on 9 October and 19 October – before the election on 8 November.
In all three states, a majority of those surveyed said that Clinton had won Monday’s first presidential debate.
Some 31 percent of likely voters said the debate improved Clinton’s chances of winning the White House, while 16 percent said the debate benefited Trump.
Linda Venticinque of Viera said she loved hearing Trump speak. “So there are a lot of different ways people are approaching this now”.
“They got some of that with Clinton”.
How does the United States election work?
Obama, without mentioning the brash Trump’s name and his campaign taunts against Clinton, said, “Our children watch everything we do, and the person we elect as president has the power to shape their lives for years to come”. “I didn’t want to do anything to embarrass her”.
When Clinton sat down with Cosmopolitan, she appeared unfazed by Trump’s thinly veiled reference. This latest survey suggests Trump has as much of a chance of turning MI red as Clinton does of flipping SC. Clinton’s daughter, Chelsea, is campaigning for her in the key mid-Atlantic state of North Carolina, where Clinton and Trump, the Republican nominee, have made numerous appearances.
While Trump ignored the rules of the debate to repeatedly cut in on Clinton, Clinton seemed unwilling to react to him and stuck to her talking points, a criticism she acknowledged with a similarly canned line.
Following criticism of his debate performance, Trump claimed he was given a “very bad” microphone and that debate moderator, Lester Holt of NBC News, asked him “very unfair questions”.

Hillary Clinton gained the most ground in Suffolk University’s latest survey of Nevada, which puts the Democratic nominee ahead of Trump 44 to 38 percent.
This is based on interviews with 521 registered voters chosen as part of a random national sample.
