But there will be plenty of questions after the Chicago Bears brought one of the NFL’s worst offenses into Sunday’s game at Solider Field before racking up more than 400 yards in a 17-14 victory over the Lions.
For one week at least, Bears fans have something positive on which they can hang their hat. “I feel good about our men, we’ve just got to perform better”, he said. There hasn’t been much production coming from the two and I’m not sure whose doing it is.
Last week, John Timu was on the Bears’ practice squad. “All I had to do was run and hit the holes that they gave me”.
The front of the person’s T-shirt read “All Lives Matter” in black lettering and the back said “Drop The Guns”. “I think you’ll continue to see those guys grown and continue to improve, but sometimes there are some growing pains”. We have players who are good enough players to get it done.
It was hard to judge Hoyer’s first start in place of the injured Jay Cutler last weekend in Dallas because the Bears faced a double-digit deficit almost the entire game.
The next game is at Indianapolis.
Protection was superb in the third quarter to allow Hoyer time in the pocket and Eddie Royal to work free across the middle for a 64-yard catch-and-run.
The miscue between Stafford and Tate spoiled the Lions’ momentum, Caldwell said.
Hoyer shrugged off a similar question, saying, “It’s my role to do whatever’s asked of me”. Not necessarily just means the offensive line, I’m talking about tight ends, if there’s a back in there responsible for getting the block going, or a receiver. Whatever they say to me tomorrow, then that’s what I’ll prepare to do. “I thought it was the mascot at first”.
Well, he’d better. And he better have lots of company, because unless and until the Lions get their best two defensive players back on the field – Ziggy Ansah and DeAndre Levy – the offense is going to have to win games for them. Stafford finished 23-of-36 for 213 yards and a 5.9-yard average per passing attempt. He had five receptions for 74 yards.
Start with this: Does 17 points against the Lions indicate the offense is fixed with Hoyer at the helm?
“We move him around quite a bit”, Caldwell said of Tate, via ESPN. “There was no rhythm to it”.
Before suffering a high ankle sprain in Week 3, Langford averaged only 3.7 yards per carry (31 attempts).
Second-year undrafted cornerback Jacoby Glenn had an interception, as did rookie Deiondre’ Hall. Neither did cornerback Tracy Porter, who had pain in his knee. His postgame interview lasted less than two minutes. The Lions have to start scoring earlier than the third quarter and actually KEEP the lead going into the fourth quarter.
“We were just not sharp at all”, said Caldwell, whose offense failed to find the end zone Sunday. “I have no clue”.
Beyond that, even with the glass half-full, more analysis requires us to consider the following facts.
