In-person voting doesn’t begin until October 24, so state Democrats are now strongly urging voters to vote by mail – including in a letter from President Barack Obama paid for by the party.
The former senator thanked Sanders for his candidacy in the primary, calling it a “contribution to democracy”.
During his almost 40-minute speech, Sanders made an attempt to sway voters who might still be unsure about casting a vote for a Clinton presidency, and made numerous comparisons between the Clinton campaign and Republican candidate Donald Trump’s bid for the White House. Sanders benefited greatly from the enthusiasm of young supporters, an area where Clinton has struggled.
The Trump campaign in Wisconsin responded with a statement saying “not even Bernie Sanders can help (Clinton’s) campaign”. In fact, Sanders was the only one of the bunch with an approval rating over 50 percent. If Clinton can hang on to her lead in this state with a high percentage of blue-collar white voters, then Trump’s path to the White House becomes much more hard.
Sanders will not be on the November ballot in Wisconsin, but he remains a potent political figure in the state. “She’s a 30-year corrupt politician with a proven record of only looking out for herself and her Wall Street friends”, said Pete Meachum, Trump’s Wisconsin state director. “That is a big deal”.
“Ask whether we want somebody who has run his campaign based on bigotry making insults everyday against women, against African Americans, against Muslims, against Latinos, I don’t think that is the kind of person we want as president”, Sanders said. That will take some work. The group is registered by former Koch staffer Lorri Pickens and is doing its ads through NonBox, the preferred media outlet of R.J. Johnson Scott Walker’s campaign guru who has been caught up in the John Doe dark money scandal. “Our job is to transform America”, Sanders said. But after a half hour of Sanders portraying Clinton as a candidate similar to himself on progressive policies, Debungie was still not ready to fully commit to Clinton.
College tuition was a central issue to Sanders’ primary campaign.
Bernie Sanders headed back to Wisconsin on Wednesday for the first time since he won the state’s presidential primary in April.
It was an assembly that was, for the most part, fiercely anti-Trump, willingly pro-Clinton, and passionately pro-Sanders, including a few Sanders supporters that will not budge.
Be Civil – It’s OK to have a difference in opinion but there’s no need to be a jerk.
“You know that this country is the wealthiest country in the history of the world. That’s what the campaign, for over a year, was about”, he told The Nation magazine last month.
“We have come a long way in fighting racism, sexism, homophobia”, Sanders said. You know what? That is pretty revolutionary. “We believe that you are the future of this country”. He wholeheartedly supports Clinton but said he was concerned. “His focus this week is helping Secretary Clinton, and Democrats in Vermont and around the country seem to appreciate that”, Briggs said. Is that significant? It is very significant. “I believe that nothing is free”. Donald Trump happens not to think that climate change is real.
Sanders, in his critically gruff manner, said the he understood “neither Hillary Clinton nor Donald Trump are particularly popular”, according to polls.
