The Washington Redskins gutted out a 16-10 victory against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.
Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins found Pierre Garçon for a 21-yard touchdown almost seven minutes into the second half to give the visitors the lead for good, 13-10, but it appeared as if the Ravens would reclaim the edge on the scoreboard just over two minutes later. It was a costly mistake that led to a 27-yard field goal by Dustin Hopkins that extended Washington’s lead to 16-10.
Washington improved to 2-0 in away games and has won five straight on the road dating to a year ago.
Cousins Steps Up – Once again Kirk Cousins was competent (29 of 41 for 260 yards, TD, Int) and confounding in the same game with one stretch highlighting all sides.
Breshad Perriman almost scored his first National Football League touchdown. Interestingly, Washington got the ball back at their 20-yard line.
“You have to hold on to the ball there”, Harbaugh said of Mosley.
The Redskins have found a groove offensively the past two weeks, behind a diverse passing game and an improved rushing attack.
Things got so bad for the Ravens offense that quarterback Joe Flacco said it was “embarrassing.” The Ravens exploited that weakness on their first possession with a 75-yard scoring drive, capped by a 7-yard pass from Flacco to Crockett Gillmore. We didn’t protect the quarterback particularly well.
Except for defensive coordinator Dean Pees, the Ravens’ coaching staff performed poorly and should shoulder more blame than the players. Kirk Cousins has bounced back from his poor start with five touchdown passes to just one interception in the past two games.
The Redskins earned their first win against the Ravens in Baltimore all-time, evening their all-time road record against the Ravens at 1-1.
After an exchange of punts, returner Jamison Crowder took the Ravens punt back 85 yards for a touchdown. A fake field goal in which the placekicker Justin Tucker was forced to throw a pass downfield in said winds. I’ve stood up here for nine years and said we’re going to be aggressive … Running back Matt Jones, who was limited early on due to a preseason shoulder injury, gashed the Browns with 117 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. The Redskins took the lead, 13-10 on a three-play, 50-yard drive that took 1:33. The Ravens offensive woes need to stop if they ever expect to win a game. That pattern doesn’t seem possible now. Doctson won’t go on injured reserve yet, Gruden said, even though the first-round pick has been bothered by the sore Achilles tendon since May. Redskins fans aren’t too competitive with me.
The Ravens have lost two in a row – both at home – after opening with three straight wins. A loss will send them to the middle of the pack, with that rough second-half schedule still to come.
