“Assistant” is the company’s answer to similar concierge services from rivals, including Siri, Amazon’s Alexa and Microsoft’s Cortana. Google has announced that consumers can now preorder its Google Home digital assistant for $129, with a ship date of November 4.
Google assistant is an iteration of a virtual assistant that is considered to be an upgrade of Google Now. Now, Google is rebranding the Google Cast app to be more inclusive of everything the app can do.
Google Home will also pair with Google Assistant and any schedule information on your Google account with a feature called “My Day”.
The device can handle other tasks now found in Echo including calling up songs from YouTube or Spotify, stream music from your phone, and even play TV shoes once Netflix starts its voice support.
Assistant is an evolution of Google Now and is created to offer each individual user a personal experience, being able to have proper conversations and understanding relatively complex tasks. Earlier this year Google rebranded the app to go by the simpler name Cast. These devices won’t be marketed like smartphones, with the emphasis on megapixels and processor performance: nobody really cares what processor is inside Amazon’s Echo or Google’s Home. Home will answer to the same command handsets use which is “Ok Google“.
The Google Home is also said to offer more natural conversations, with the smart speaker able to understand requests using the same contextual awareness found in Google Now.
On a final note, Google has confirmed that the Google Assistant SDK will be made available to developers in 2017, though an exact time frame has not been provided yet, though the internet giant has confirmed that it will provide more information regarding Actions in December.
Google has sold smartphones and tablets under the Nexus brand, which it launched in 2010 as a way to show off the best features of its Android software.
Users can ask questions, play music, and control smartphone devices with the small speaker.
Google Assistant will also be coming to Google Home, a smart-home appliance that will enable users to play music, ask questions, handle daily tasks and control other home devices using voice commands. The potential is there, but it remains to be seen whether it has what it takes to take over the spot of the Amazon Echo in homes.
Pre-orders for Google WiFi start in November and ship in December and are priced at United States dollars 129 for a single unit or USD 299 for a pack of three. Judging by its looks alone, the Google-made speaker is not only smart; its quality exceeds that of the Echo.
In fact, Google has had a Chromecast mobile app for a few years, too.
