Anyone who knows about Miz knows that he worked his ass off to go from a Real World star to a WWE mainstay that does whatever the company asks of him. Since Bliss is the No. 1 contender, I didn’t expect her to lose but I like that she did. MATTHEW BYER: The tea leaves seem to be saying that Bliss is going to walk out with the WWE Smackdown Women’s Title, in large part, because Lynch seems more compelling chasing the championship than as the champion. Jason Jordan pinned Aiden English after a Grand Amplitude. “No Mercy” started with the main event FIRST, giving fans the highly anticipated triple threat between AJ Styles, John Cena, and Dean Ambrose at the top of the opening hour. Alas, there’s no easy answer to that one, not even having Flair come out to crown Cena as the champion, so I suspect they will leave the title on AJ Styles and punt the decision of having another wrestler tying Flair’s record to a later date.
In an unusual twist which saw the show’s biggest prize defended at the event’s opener, Ambrose reversed Styles’ Calf Crusher with one of his own, while Cena put him in the STFU. Styles tapped out but no victor was declared. We were well into the match before the first finishers, a pair of Attitude Adjustments from Cena, were hit. AJ Styles went on to beat his opponents and pinned Cena to retain his championship.
Another memorable match was held between Nikki Bella and Carmella when they both fought each other one on one. Since her return, Carmella has taken it upon herself to humble the former divas champion every time she could, until she broke Nikki Bella to the point that Nikki demanded herself a match against her.
Health Slater and Rhyno vs.
As great as Slyno’s big win at Backlash was, I’m totally okay with them losing the titles to the rightful tag champs now.
What happened: The Usos appeared to be on track to win the tag team titles, but Rhyno changed that. The Man Beast prevented Slater from tapping out to a Tequila Sunrise from Jey Uso, then tagged into the bout & clobbered Jey out of his highlighter yellow sneakers with a devastating Gore.
On last week’s episode of SmackDown, the referee thought Baron Corbin was tapping out to the ankle lock, and since that was an error of judgment, the two collide again tonight.
At the top of this card are two very intriguing championship matches. A great match ending a strong feud, culminating in a powerful moment.
The powerful Baron Corbin continued to impress as his End of Days finisher proved too much for a resilient Jack Swagger, following a hard-hitting slugfest.
She said: “The big difference between me and Becky is she is a submission specialist and I like to hit hard”. At the end of the match, Maryse called out the Spirit Squad to interfere, but they were unsuccessful, as Ziggler finally won with a Superkick. Obviously, Bliss was not pleased with this news, despite also learning that she will get an opportunity to challenge the Irish Lass Kicker for the title on Tuesday November 8th in Glasgow, Scotland, on SmackDown LIVE. Carmella isn’t the best heel in the division right now and this feud should’ve gone to Natalya, but she needs this.
One rivalry which has been as successful as Chris Evans talking about cars has been Randy Orton vs Bray Wyatt, and their main event elongated the on screen tedium the two have built over the past few weeks. I’m fine with the supernatural stuff with The Undertaker and Kane, but it actually makes Wyatt less scary than he should be.
