There was one last heart-stopping moment for the visitors, however, when Swansea’s Mike van der Hoorn found himself unmarked four metres out in stoppage time, but pulled his effort wide, leaving Liverpool to celebrate a fourth straight win.
Liverpool are five points and as many league places better off than they were at this time last term – a clear indication of their steady improvement under Klopp.
“I was very angry”, Klopp told reporters at his post-match news conference.
“We gave ourselves all the work to do but it showed great character to come back from a goal behind away from home and get three points”.
“There’s a long way to go and it’s still early stages but we know we can beat anyone on our day and we have got to keep that going”.
Liverpool won the game thanks to Roberto Firmino’s header and a penalty from James Milner, but Klopp still didn’t sound too happy with his afternoon in Wales.
“Obviously he had a few words to say because it wasn’t good enough, especially the first half an hour”.
“I think the Swansea goal maybe was offside, but it’s not important anymore”.
“I explained to him and said: ‘OK we can now have a conversation.’ We talked about football and how he wants to play, how he sees me in his team”. We should have done better in the first half.
Manchester City’s defeat at White Hart Lane against Tottenham showed that this season will be an interesting one for clubs expected to challenge at the top end of the table. “You need to stop this and half-time is really good for this”.
John Aldridge is of the belief that the Belgian is the gloveman to start in Liverpool’s next match which takes place against arch rivals Manchester United on Monday night, October 17, following the global break. Luckily, the team turned it around in the second half. “I know my job and I don’t worry about this (speculation)”.
“I am sure in the future this team can turn the situation around”.
“It’s a year, I’m a year older and all this s***, but everything else is good”.
