This news adds to the rumor that has been surfacing the internet for some time now.
Though for several months people were predicting that Apple could freshen up its MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac computers. While this looks simple and elegant, when it came to practical usage, having one port for power, data and other needs is not really practical. The update brings Siri to the Mac, improved file syncing with iCloud, a way to share copied items across Apple devices and more. Customers, however, are hoping that Apple will leave the headphone jack alone and not remove it like with the iPhone 7. However, it doesn’t have a flawless track record. Less likely, but still plausible, are updates to the Mac Pro (last updated in December 2013), MacBook Air (last updated March 2015), and Mac Mini (last updated October 2014). Instead Apple will concentrate on the 13-inch MacBook Air.
Some rumors have suggested that Apple will discontinue the 11-inch MacBook Air, in favor of the 12- and 13-inch models. Apple sells a USB-C dock with support for USB 3.0, USB-C and HDMI cable connection.
A new report, however, claims that Apple is still on track to make the announcement this October on a new lineup of MacBooks.
Basically, the next MacBook Pro will likely be a thinner, lighter laptop. This will replace the function buttons and will have touch sensitive buttons for various functionality. According to Apple’s trademark filings, the OLED touch bar could be referred to as “Touch Bar” or the “Control Strip”. Refreshes since then have been done quietly via press releases and private meetings.
Furthermore, the Mac Otakara report also hinted that units of the new laptop may even be sent out to retailers before the calendar turns to November.
