‘Rocky Horror’ does the time warp again

The first time I saw The Rocky Horror Picture Show, my friend and I snuck into one of the long-running midnight screenings at a theater in Chelsea.

This is isn’t to say the new “Rocky Horror” is bad. Today, in honor of Fox’s new reboot starring Laverne Cox, we rank the songs of The Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack from worst to best.

Some fans are sure to pledge loyalty to the legendary original from 1975.

Reeve Carney, Broadway’s original Spider-Man, is very watchable as Riff-Raff, Frank-N-Furter’s creepy aide, though even he is mostly just doing what Richard O’Brien (who created the stage musical on which the movie is based) did in the role.

The Fox version nodded at the film’s cult status as a theater audience was shown watching it and occasionally yelling at the screen. Sexual awakening, cross dressing and homosexuality are all openly accepted now but to put it in perspective, we had President Ford in the White House when Tim Curry introduced us to Dr. Frank-N-Furter.

Janet and Brad will be played by Victoria Justice and Ryan McCartan, and America Idol alum Adam Lambert has been cast as Eddie.

The “Rocky Horror Picture Show” debuted at the Uptown Theater in 1978, where it played continuously for almost 20 years.

According to the network, the special two-hour musical follows sweethearts Janet (Victoria Justice) and Brad (Ryan McCartan) who stumble upon Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s (Laverne Cox) freakish abode.

Yes, boys and girls, if you aren’t familiar with the sci-fi/B-movie genre parody Rocky Horror, featuring Tim Curry in the iconic lead role (he plays the criminologist in this version), you’re probably having an “are you kidding me?” moment right now. “So many of my dreams have come true and Rocky Horror was definitely one of them”.

Let’s Do the Time Warp Again is a reimagining of the cult hit that follows the adventures of a young couple who find themselves at the mercy of the kinky Dr. Frank-N-Furter.

I’ve written before that I didn’t think I gave a damn about Grease Live! earlier this year, but I checked out the first few minutes and suddenly it was three hours later. See which TV networks you can watch online without cable, including FOX.

So if The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let’s Do The Time Warp Again isn’t live, then by definition it’s just another TV show, you know?
