Democratic Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders urges supporters of GOP nominee Donald Trump to get “big money” out of the United States politics by considering voting for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.
Despite his transfer of support to Hillary Clinton, Staples expressed that he originally preferred Bernie Sanders for the Democratic nomination because of his focus on the problems that are now facing the country, while Hillary was focusing more on foreign issues and problems concerning foreign policy. The 74-year-old self-described democratic socialist has been one of Clinton’s most fervent stumpers since he began hitting the campaign trail on her behalf in September.
Clinton has used surrogates to try to bolster her standing with particular segments of the electorate. “Barring massive voter fraud, of course he is going to accept the results of the elections”, he said.
And it helps that Sanders is so involved in helping to campaign for Clinton, she said, to send a unified message, even if Sanders and Clinton differed on some details when they ran against each other.
During his stump speech, Sanders focused on the issues he and Clinton have in common – like health care, minimum wage, pay equity, affordable college, climate change and maybe most energetically beating Donald Trump.
“In any other year Democrats would have the luxury of throwing elbows at each other but everyone is cognizant of the crystal clear disaster that a Trump presidency would be for progressives and America”, said Strother.
Even after the Democratic convention in which Sanders endorsed her, more than a third of Bernie voters – roughly 1/6 of the electorate – still weren’t behind her. “Hillary (has) a lot of scandals on her back”, he says, but he views her opponent as worse.
It’s no surprise that Clinton is making such a blatant appeal to Sanders’ supporters at the final presidential debate – Forbes recently reported that only 55 percent of Sanders’ supporters are planning to vote for Clinton on November 8. Cain emphasized that the Clinton campaign is promising a rise in the minimum wage, an issue that would impact ME families greatly. Once again, however, missives poured in- this time from the right-strongly and savagely denouncing the choice of the country’s first female major party presidential nominee. “…(We want) an economy and a government that works for all of us, not just the few”. Clinton has consolidated support among most but not all of them: Eight in 10 of former Sanders supporters back her; one in 10 support Trump.
Kristiana Kershaw, a student at Loyola University in Chicago, plans to vote for Trump because she likes his business expertise and his conservative policies. “We can win here!” he said.
On climate change, Sanders said that scientists “from all over the world” say “in a unanimous voice that climate change is real, it is a threat to our country and it is already doing devastation to the world”. Then it offers an overview of Clinton’s proposals ― including a higher minimum wage, big spending on infrastructure and new early childhood education programs ― that are created to bolster economic fortunes for the poor and middle class.
