Minnesota has won seven of its last eight road games dating back to last season and, in their most recent game away from U.S. Bank Stadium, the Vikings took down the Panthers, 22-10, in Week 3. The Ravens defense, which ranks third overall, is playing much better than anticipated this season.
The Eagles may need Allen Sunday, as the status of Bennie Logan is up in the air against the Minnesota Vikings. Minnesota, off to a 5-0 start, is reaching the lofty expectations it had entering the season before Teddy Bridgewater got hurt. The Vikings gave up a first round pick for the former number one overall selection.
The Vikings unbeaten streak has less to do with the play of Bradford and more about the Vikings defense, which is first is scoring, second in total yards and tied for third in sacks. They’re undefeated and he hasn’t thrown an interception, yet.
Sunday could be the first time this season the Vikings’ wide receiver depth is tested.
Minnesota’s defense has been impressive thus far this season. Carson Wentz will have a hard task going up against the top defense in the league, but there could be some surprise outbursts in the game. The Eagles have crashed landed with two consecutive losses after starting the season with three straight wins. The final score was 27-20 in favor of Washington. In fact, he expects the opposite after his defense was steamrolled for 230 rushing yards on Sunday against the Washington Redskins.
The Vikings have seen some positives in recent weeks, with Jerick McKinnon breaking loose for a 25-yard run against the Giants.
Philadelphia, after a 3-0 start, has had a saddening dose of reality. The Eagles are running the same offense, which will help the Vikings, who had a full week to prepare coming off a bye. He knew eventually that Wentz, a touted rookie from North Dakota State, would take over. Wentz has been very efficient. They have given up 111 completions out of 200 attempts for a 55.5% completion percentage this year. But Shurmur left after one season to take the Browns head coaching job. He has spread the ball around to various players. The Eagles have given up 523 rushing yards on 109 carries for a 4.8 average, which ranks them 9th in the National Football League in rushing defense. They’ve passed for 1,126 yards, which ranks 30th in the league. Dont’a Hightower was named AFC defensive player of the week for Week 6 and is the strongest asset for stopping Bell in the run game. The combination of Jerrick McKinnon and Matt Asiata haven’t fared a lot better, rushing 93 times for 273 yards – a 2.9 average – with three touchdowns.
Wentz hasn’t been bad, either, completing 65 percent of his passes for 1,186 yards and seven touchdowns.
The Minnesota Vikings don’t run the ball well, but they do run it often. Darren Sproles will be the top receiver.
The Eagles trade with the Vikings opened the door for Wentz to become the starter.
To get a different perspective on the game, The Viking Age reached out to FanSided’s site Inside the Iggles where site expert Geoffrey Knox answered five questions regarding the upcoming game in an interview. Even though Bradford was called upon to learn a new offense in a minimal amount of time in Minnesota, he’s perfectly suited to that, given he’s had four different offensive coordinators in his six seasons in the National Football League, with the only overlap being Pat Shurmur during his rookie season with the Rams and again a year ago in Philadelphia.
When VIKINGS WR Stefon Diggs was held out of Week 5 win over Texans (groin; check status), Adam Thielen stepped up with 7-127 receiving and a tone-setting TD on opening drive.
