Despite his elevation to the starting quarterback spot with the San Francisco 49ers last weekend, Colin Kaepernick is still better known for the controversy and national discussion spawned by his actions during the national anthem. “I don’t know exactly what the ins and outs of the systems that he was in before we got here, but in terms of us seeing him, I think he does have anticipation, he does have the ability to throw guys open”. And it wasn’t just the wretched run defense: QB Jameis Winston had three TD passes, the third-best completion percentage (70.0) and fifth-best rating (117.2) of his 22-start career as the Bucs gained at least 513 yards for the fifth time in franchise history. Out of the fans who claim to be watching fewer games, 40 percent cited Kaepernick’s national anthem protest as their reason.
“We executed really well on that first drive”, the quarterback said. And (poor pass) protection. Their average of 262.4 passing yards per game would be a season high for the 49ers offense. It’s even spread to other sports with star players following Kaepernick’s lead.
The 49ers’ inactives are Hyde, QB Christian Ponder, WR Keshawn Martin, CB Marcus Cromartie, OL John Theus, TE Je’Ron Hamm and DT Glenn Dorsey.
It’s worth pointing out that the 49ers and Kelly agreed on a lucrative four-year deal just this winter spring worth $24 million.
But the 49ers can be a challenge with the offense of coach Chip Kelly. “We’re not doing that well enough in the run game right now. And that’s the way I’ve always done it, and I think we’ve been fresh coming out of the bye week”.
Per Jerry McDonald of the Mercury News, Kelly declared he has no intention of leaving the 49ers. Before jumping to the National Football League in 2013, he excelled at the University of Oregon. They’ve come and visited since I left OR and come in the NFL. This one fit into their schedule.
“He said what he normally says: ‘Just do it, ‘ ” Kelly said.
With LSU already looking for a coach and Texas a definite possibility to have an opening, Kelly could be tempted by one of the elite jobs in his profession, regardless of level of competition.
“Unless the media has an opportunity for me somewhere”, Kelly said. “So, to see strength out of 11- and 12-year-olds like that, that’s encouraging to me because it shows the strength of our youth, it shows their consciousness of what’s going on, and that’s going to be the future moving forward”. We need to stop turning the ball over.
Five Questions: Are the Vikings really the best team in the NFL? We need to tackle better on the defensive side.
And safety Eric Reid: “I love this scheme”.
The 49ers have made head coaching changes after each of the last two seasons, parting ways with Jim Harbaugh following the 2014 season and firing Jim Tomsula after last season.
