The Cleveland Indians and Chicago Cubs will meet in the 112th edition of the World Series, and with the two teams combining for a 176-year championship drought, massive demand for World Series tickets has followed on the secondary market. The Cubs were the best team in baseball and are just building off last year’s run to the National League Championship Series. The Cubs and Indians were scheduled to play that evening, and though there was a forecast of storms, it appeared the teams would get the proverbial “window”. And while Cleveland fans are longing for a baseball victory, the city does have a big sports win under its belt: The Cavaliers won this year’s National Basketball Association title.
Cubs catcher David Ross said he would have been pulling for the Indians if Chicago wasn’t in the World Series.
Another second later, my brother sent me a text: “WORLD SERIES ABBEY”.
Game 2 remains the bargain of the series as the minimum asking price was about $750 as of Tuesday with approximately 1,800 tickets left on the secondary market.
Now, though, with interleague play we have some basis to see how teams from different leagues match up.
Well, all the love toward the NL champions has left the Indians as underdogs – a role they’ve embraced this October. “Hopefully we’ll be good to go by tomorrow night”. “We found out the last series that that’s probably a good way to do it”. Obviously some of the players on the teams this year are different, but numerous principals for both teams are the same.
And that assuredness has only grown.
Kluber, the 2014 American League (AL) Cy Young victor, held the Boston Red Sox scoreless over seven innings in the AL Division Series and allowed two runs over 11 1/3 innings in the AL Championship Series against the Toronto Blue Jays to enter the World Series with a 0.98 ERA.
The MLB.com At Bat app (available for iOS, Android and Kindle Fire) is great for watching out-of-market baseball games during the regular season, but it’s less useful for tuning into baseball’s postseason because you not only need to prove you are a cable TV subscriber, but you must also be a subscriber to a participating pay TV provider. The Indians have a drought of their own that dates back to 1948, but they aren’t concerned about it, nor are they interested in being swept up in the storylines. “Who cares”, he said.
GOLDMAN: Yeah. They become winners, of course. “If you want to count us out, that works for us”. That rotation, with the bounce-back performance from John Lackey and the brilliance from Jon Lester and Kyle Hendricks, is just going to be so hard to beat. I lost touch with my dad for too many years, and I internalized way too much anger and guilt for far too long.
“I called my mother last night after they had won and she said grandpa was coaching them in heaven, because like i said, he’s passed away”.
“The next day, he came up here and put on an absolute show, and then he went 2-for-4 with a double in the game”. With a need for a designated hitter in Game 1 and Game 2, Schwarber could immediately be in Chicago’s lineup if he’s deemed fit to play. She says she’s not anxious about the Cleveland Indians, who the Cubs will face Tuesday in Game 1. “He went over to embrace (shortstop) Frankie (Lindor) and he rolled his foot on Frankie’s foot”. So he’s got a low ankle sprain. I know they got a taste of it in the late ’90s, but these 25 guys and their 25 guys didn’t experience that process. He’s going to be OK. We may have weird ways of showing it at times, but we never fail to demonstrate loyalty and unconditional love, even when the circumstances are less than flawless.
Kipnis took grounders as head athletic trainer James Quinlan watched.
Salazar pitched a three-inning simulated game on Sunday night, the final hurdle for him to be cleared.
Before the first batter even steps to the plate, this World Series already has the potential to be a classic.
Two Midwestern cities separated by roughly 300 miles.
Sahadev Sharma: The talk in Cleveland is these are two evenly matched teams.
A pair of big cities, one on Lake Michigan, the other on Lake Erie, waiting. and hoping to end the wait.
“The history means a lot”, Hendricks said.
“We have fun with it”, Rizzo said.
“That’s something I live for”.
