Ohio State holds a 57-18-5 lead in the series, and has won four straight contests over Wisconsin dating back to 2011.
The second-ranked Buckeyes fell behind the No. 8 Badgers 16-6 at halftime, but Barrett came up big in the second half.
There were about a million different reasons that Ohio State could have lost this game. “He didn’t play his best but the absolute test of a leader is to raise the level of play of the people around him”. Alex Hornibrook threw for 88 yards and a touchdown in 9-for-25 passes. On third-and-2 from the Wisconsin 7-yard line, the Buckeyes faked a zone read to back Mike Weber, and instead of running, Barrett identified Brown in a one-on-one matchup and delivered a flawless back-shoulder throw into the corner of the endzone for what ended up being the winning score.
It wouldn’t be long before OSU finally got a touchdown, though. “We knew they were a good football team”.
Clement had 12 carries for 110 yards in the first half and finished with 164 yards on 25 attempts.
Corey Clement had some powerful words about the team at the half when they were leading 16-6.
After a really hot start by Wisconsin’s offense in the first half, the second half saw a regression.
The Big Ten conference noticed, giving Barrett another Big Ten co-offensive player of the week award.
After stopping OSU, Wisconsin would get another drive.
“You look at those things. how can we finish”, coach Paul Chryst said.
Nearly nobody recruits better than Ohio State, and it was apparent a few times Saturday night. J.T. Barrett came up big with the game on the line in the last two quarters.
The Buckeyes made it a point to work on their passing game after problems last week against Indiana. Add that it’s a Saturday night and the annual “white-out” game – when fans dress in all white – and it will be all the more raucous. But Ohio State’s Chris Worley chased down Clement at the end of the play and ripped out the ball for a fumble, which Ohio State scooped up for a key turnover. “This one hurts tonight”. With matches against Wisconsin and Michigan State coming up, IU could avoid Maryland, which is poised to finish in first place. Wisconsin (4-2) will travel Iowa City to take on Iowa (5-2). They figure to fall a few spots in the poll, but shouldn’t be severely penalized given their admirable performances against top competition.
Barrett, overcoming two large penalties, and then threw a touchdown pass to wide receiver Noah Brown to go up by seven.
The other two rushers, running back Mike Weber Jr. and h-back Curtis Samuel, did not have their best outings.
Wisconsin: Hornibrook, a freshman, was 16 of 28 for 214 yards, with a touchdown and an interception.
OSU coach Urban Meyer admitted after the game he was ready to tear into his team at halftime for allowing 313 yards in the first half and the offense couldn’t score a touchdown. The Badgers outgained the Buckeyes 450-411.
Wisconsin’s defense should be good enough to keep them hanging around in this game.
