Canes lose wild game to Notre Dame 30-27

October 30 01:32 2016

Last week’s bye recharged Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly’s sense of humor.

Perhaps the most important play DeShone Kizer made Saturday didn’t really have anything to do with the finesse or skill of a quarterback, but more grit and mental toughness.

An on sides kick ensued and Jamal Carter recovered to give the ‘Canes the ball back. “We had to get the feel for the game, maybe the atmosphere, so we were just working through that”. The Irish kicked the game-winning field goal four plays later.

Waiting in the wings, incidentally, is junior Parker Boehme, a Sandalwood graduate who has completed 7 of 9 passes for 41 yards and two TDs in backup duty.

Kizer completed a 14-yard TD to Equanimeous St. A Curtis Samuel four-yard run with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game gave the Buckeyes the lead. The Wildcats, who exit the game at 4-4, entered it as a almost four-touchdown underdog and were looking for their first road win over the Buckeyes since 1971 and their first over the same team since 2004. DeShone Kizer recaptures some of the National Football League form he showed earlier in the year and Jarron Jones blocks a kick to secure the win.

“I think it was just the state that you’re in, you’re not leaving any stone unturned from that standpoint”.

“One of the things I was looking for from him wasn’t whether he could run another dig route”.

3 Field goals in as many attempts versus Miami by Fighting Irish sophomore Justin Yoon, highlighted by the game victor from 23 yards with 30 seconds remaining. But before that, there were serious issues. Punter Justin Vogel, meanwhile, averaged 44.9 yards per punt and two of those resulted in Notre Dame turnovers, including a fumble that was recovered by Miami’s Michael Jackson in the end zone for a touchdown.

So while most fans look for a silver lining (one that won’t likely be coming until next season), this football team looks for a win. He picked out the running game and converting third down were two glaring issues that needed fixing. In Saturday’s win over Miami, both areas were better than what they were in recent weeks.

A lot has been made of both Miami and Notre Dame’s quarterbacks and rightfully so.

Additionally, there were some new wrinkles offensively. Notre Dame football has been like a vehicle crash I can’t take my eyes off of, and finally, I can shift my focus to basketball. “This was their first win against Notre Dame in four years”, MSU head coach Damon Rensing said.

Kaaya, who has 1,696 passing yards, 12 touchdowns and five interceptions, is a three-year starter and by far the most experienced passer Notre Dame has faced this year. Miami drove for the game-tying field goal in 11 plays.

With ten first half saves, the Vikings went into halftime knotted up at 0-0 before the Irish pulled away.

Miami went three and out and the Irish again marched down the field.

Notre Dame jumped out to claim a 20-0 lead on Miami early in the second quarter. He sees a coach who is unafraid to voice his opinion, who expects greatness out of his quarterback and who, upon seeing a mistake, will let the guilty party know about it. Smith says he never got a break from Kelly, but he also notes that that wasn’t a bad thing.

That is why Irish coach Brian Kelly hasn’t talked much about the rivalry. The Irish finished with 12 tackles for loss, the most since they had 12 against Syracuse in 2005. So as the competition has gotten better, Walton and the run game has struggled.
