The emails were reportedly found on a laptop belonging to Anthony Weiner, the disgraced congressman and estranged husband of one of Clinton’s closest aides, Huma Abedin.
Federal Bureau of Investigation agents are plumbing hundreds of thousands of emails in search of potentially incriminating evidence against Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, in a high pressure probe seven days before the USA presidential election.
Abedin has been by Hillary Clinton’s side since she was a 19-year-old intern to the then-first lady in the early 1990s, while she finished her undergraduate degree at George Washington University.
Clinton on Monday played down the damage of the probe, telling a rally in the swing state of OH that “there’s no case here” and that she’s confident no charges will be made.
He said they should be reviewed because they could be relevant to an earlier probe into Clinton’s use of a private server to send emails while she was secretary of state.
The issue that Clinton used a private email account, not the secure State Department one provided for her when she was secretary of state, first came up during Gowdy’s congressional investigation into the events surrounding the Benghazi attack on September 11, 2012.
“The data clearly shows that Mr. Trump’s message is reaching voters and we are expanding the map”, campaign Digital Director Brad Parscale said in the press release, which noted that Clinton’s campaign also has restarted ad buys in Wisconsin and Colorado in recent days, showing the Democrats’ own “nervousness about key battleground states”. Comey has already described Clinton and her aides as “extremely careless” and has said agents found scores of classified emails on Clinton’s server.
Former attorney general Eric Holder said Comey “committed a serious error” and Senate minority leader Harry Reid claimed Comey “may have violated the law”.
“This is the biggest political scandal since Watergate, and it’s everybody’s deepest hope that justice at last will be beautifully delivered”, crowed Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, without knowing what the latest batch of emails contain. She briefly took a break from Clinton in 2013 to stand beside her husband as he bid for mayor of NY, but as that campaign was shattered by yet another scandal involving Weiner sending inappropriate messages to women, Abedin seamlessly resumed working for Clinton.
House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) sent Comey a two-page letter on Monday demanding he provide answers to several questions about Clinton’s handling of classified documents in light of the Weiner development.
Despite the controversy about her email, Clinton continues to hold a large advantage in the Electoral College, the process that selects a president by awarding votes through individual state elections. President Barack Obama, however, polled at 62 percent in those categories.
“By taking this highly unusual, unprecedented action this close to the election, he put himself in the middle of the campaign”, Palmieri said of Comey.
I think he felt the need to supplement the record.
Justice Department officials who were advised of the FBI’s intention to notify Congress about the discovery expressed concern that the action would be inconsistent with department protocols created to avoid the appearance of interference in an election.
“I’ll neither defend nor criticize what Director Comey has made a decision to communicate”, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said. “I never liked you, Anthony”.
