California elections officials are bracing for robust turnout, confused first-time voters and the prospect of long lines in a presidential election that has registered a record 19.4 million voters in the state.
Pennsylvania, a state that mostly votes on Election Day, saw a rash of voter intimidation reports, but few could be verified or seemed like sustained or organized actions. Today, almost one in four people use alternatives to election-day polling. As a result, many people were unable to obtain necessary identification documents and cast ballots in Wisconsin this year.
There were reports of voters waiting for hours to cast their ballots in such places as Missouri and Utah.
Speaking to reporters Tuesday morning in his hometown of Richmond, Virginia, the senator said: “It’s kind of like we’ve done all we can do and now it’s in the hands of the voters, but we feel really comfortable about it”.
Voter turnout in Chicago is expected to match and possibly surpass the 2012 election, with millennials leading all age groups in ballots cast, the Chicago Board of Elections said Tuesday. “There may be lines at some of the locations, but we expect they will dissipate quickly”, she said. One oddity of this election year, officials said, is the possibility of an abundance of write-in votes for major offices, even including president. Influencing a voter by means of force or intimidation, interfering with a voter and interfering with the conduct of an election are misdemeanors. The right to vote is something to cherish, as many people across the globe do not get a chance to elect the officials who govern their countries. Legal challenges to some of those have led to a multitude of court rulings in recent months that blocked or struck down some provisions while upholding or reinstating others, which triggered concerns of misinformation among voters, election officials and poll workers.
But others said that this election is different, meaning long lines are a distinct possibility. The run-up to the vote was fraught, with unsupported claims by Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump of a rigged election and fears that hackers might attack voting systems. “This is a good problem to have”.
In Michigan, Fox 2 reported receiving dozens of phone calls and emails from voters claiming the machines at their polling places weren’t working correctly. “We have to see how it is”.
