I feel ‘very encouraged’ after meeting with Trump – Obama

The two men met privately for about 90 minutes inside the Oval Office and then briefly addressed the press. You know, the ones Donald Trump has flirted with violating throughout his entire campaign. “We are Americans first”, he said.

The meeting lasted for nearly an hour and a half.

“This is not the outcome we wanted or we worked so hard for”, she said, “and I’m sorry that we did not win this election for the values we share and the vision we hold for our country”.

Trump said they talked about a range of things and that he looked forward to meeting with the president “many, many more times“. Thousands of protesters turned out in some of the biggest USA cities to voice their opposition to Trump on Thursday, who surprised voters by winning the presidential election this week, despite narrowly losing the popular vote to his rival Hillary Clinton. USA intelligence and defense officials are starting to give Trump daily briefings on threats to the country’s security and overseas military operations. Mr. Obama said the two women “had an excellent conversation as well”.

After the Republican Trump’s stunning upset of the heavily favoured Clinton, Democratic President Barack Obama and leading figures in the Republican Party who had struggled to make peace with Trump all vowed to move past the ugliness of an angry and sometimes personal campaign to seek common ground.

“The meeting might have been a little less awkward than some might have expected”, he said.

The meeting ended on a light note, with Obama telling Trump, “Here’s a good rule: Don’t answer their questions when they start yelling at you”, referring the media swarm. As he campaigned vigorously for Clinton in the race’s final days, Sasha Obama said he was confident that if Americans showed up to vote, they’d choose against electing the billionaire former reality TV star with no formal government experience.

Trump’s triumph over Clinton, not declared until well after midnight, will end eight years of Democratic dominance of the White House.

It is too early to analyze the message voters in the United States were trying to send when they cast ballots on Tuesday, Earnest said. Trump’s accusations and innuendo for years about the president’s origin were false – which he finally later admitted during this campaign. Obama and Trump did not “relitigate” those differences during their meeting, Earnest said. I certainly hope that’s how his presidency has a chance to begin’.

Secretary of State John Kerry cited the tradition of peaceful changes in leadership as he congratulated Trump on Thursday and wished him well for the “enormous challenges that he will undertake”. We go at it.

The day after this year’s election, Obama cited the transition efforts by the outgoing Bush administration in 2008-2009 as a model for how he wanted his staff to operate. House Speaker Paul Ryan, who was lukewarm in his support throughout the campaign, praised him for pulling off “the most incredible political feat I have seen in my lifetime”.

“But it’s Trump’s supporters who are laughing now”. Sasha Obama – the Obamas’ youngest – was 7.

An extraordinarily large number of Obama aides and advisers – more than a hundred in all – gathered to hear his statement, including stenographers, low-level aides and White House Counsel Neil Eggleston.
