Bernie Sanders on Trump’s win: ‘Stand up and fight back’

November 15 02:20 2016

“Senate Democrats will spend the coming days and weeks reflecting on these results, hearing from the American people, and charting a path forward to achieve our shared goals and to defend our values”. Although racism and sexism are ingrained in the fabric of our society, including that of the Democratic Party, it stands to reason that under normal circumstances Trump’s horrific rhetoric would have been rejected by most Americans. You can have all the money in the world, but if they people don’t believe in your ideas, you will always fail. Students are taking on massive amounts of debt to get an education. We are gonna have to raise public consciousness, we’re gonna have to, and what the political revolution is about – we’ve had some really good successes. Americans know a takeover has occurred, and they blame the establishment for it.

Q: How much overlap was there between you and Donald Trump in your appeal?

“What happened?” many are now asking, in an attempt to process the unexpected and learn from this coalition failure.

In his first interview on CNN’s “The Situation Room” after Trump’s election as president Tuesday, Sanders, who lost to Clinton in the Democratic primary, also said he “would have loved to have had the opportunity to run against [Trump], but that did not end up being the case”.

According to the OccupyDemocrats.com, the Democratic Party is major need of rebranding and is expected to go through a complete overhaul since they have lost both branches of government.

The Democrats used to represent the working class. They courted the elite from all corners, big oil, wall street, the pharmaceutical industry and telecommunication giants, but neglected their constituency.

Asked about the early comparisons between his campaign and Trump’s, Sanders cited their ability to reach those who fear the future.

SIEGEL: How do you understand then, if you – if those were the issues that you campaigned on – and by the fall Hillary Clinton had embraced a great deal of that language as well – how do you understand the defeat in the presidential race? Trump was able to win key races in Wisconsin, Florida, Iowa, Pennsylvania and OH – all states Mitt Romney failed to win. After all, the future of America remains a liberal, multicultural one.

“She should have won this election by 10 percentage points”.

These are interesting thoughts from Sanders, as one of the strongest arguments for the Electoral College is that it forces presidential candidates to pay attention to less populated states that may otherwise be neglected if the system was purely based on a popular vote. Without a Democratic president to pick her successor, the committee will hold open elections for the post.

Bernie Sanders said Thursday that he was surprised as anybody by Hillary Clinton’s loss, saying he felt she had a two-to-one chance of winning before Election Day.

The angry people who are exhausted of working so much for no money and who are exhausted of not being able to afford college tuition for their kids-that is, poor people-voted for Hillary Clinton.

“You’ll remember, Wolf, he talked about how he was going to be a champion of working families”, Sanders continued.
