Latest playoff rankings look promising for Ohio State

OU is clumped with other 9-2 schools – including Bedlam rival and No. 10 Oklahoma State – trying to position themselves in the CFP conversation.

The rest of this week’s top 10 is as follows: 1. “We were back and forth as to the positioning of some of those teams”. They won’t be placed above a one-loss ACC, Big Ten and Pac-12 champion, but above a two-loss Oklahoma or Oklahoma State?

The decision by the committee in regards to the fate of the potential Big Ten champion in the playoffs over potential one-loss teams such as OSU and MI will be made exactly a week from Tuesday.

Whom they’ll be rooting for this week: Washington State over Washington, Michigan State over Penn State, Ohio State over Michigan (if Penn State loses), Michigan over Ohio State (if Penn State wins), SC over Clemson and Minnesota over Wisconsin. The Buckeyes will host MI this Saturday. Boise State can’t reach the Mountain West championship game on December 3 without a Wyoming loss Saturday. 2 Ohio State beats third-ranked MI earlier in the day, the Nittany Lions clinch the Big Ten East division title and earn a spot in the conference title game.

The Buckeyes (10-1, 7-1 Big Ten) ascended to the No. 2 spot last week following the carnage of Clemson, Michigan and Washington all losing. A two-loss Big 12 or Pac-12 champion might also have a case, but based on the way the rankings are set up, the Big Ten would hold an advantage.

Sooners need help from Leach – Current WSU head coach and former Oklahoma offensive coordinator Mike Leach could help the Sooners immensely by taking out the fifth-ranked Huskies this weekend. Florida, which will take on Alabama in the SEC Championship, will try to avenge its 27-2 loss to the Seminoles a year ago. The Tigers, who rolled past Wake Forest 35-13 last week, conclude their regular season on Saturday by hosting arch-rival SC. Houston is locked out of the American Athletic Conference title game.
