The Pittsburgh Steelers have had a odd season starting it with a three-game suspension of All-Pro running back Le’Veon Bell and then losing Ben Roethlisberger right about the halfway point to a minor knee scope.
Tolzien has not started an National Football League game since 2013. In his last two games against the Colts Roethlisberger has thrown for nearly 900 yards with 10 touchdowns and no interceptions.
In passing yards, the Steelers edge things with 268.2 yards compared to the Colts’ 260.8 yards per game.
The Colts have similar offensive weapons to Pittsburgh, but their offensive line can’t protect the quarterback.
Rushing yards per game has Pittsburgh at 96.2 (23 in the NFL) and Indy at 95.8 (24th in the NFL).
No one is going to mistake Tolzien for a clone of Luck. The Colts would threaten with a 4th and goal situation late in the second quarter, but Pittsburgh’s defense stood tall, and the 21-7 score stood at halftime.
Mailbag:: Is it time for everyone to go for two? Tolzien has thrown one regular-season pass since then and has not taken a regular-season snap for the Colts since signing with the team in March.
None. Nada. Zilch. Receiver Phillip Dorsett dropped a fourth-down pass in the end zone.
Again, it was all about missed opportunities for the Colts. With numbers like that (including no interceptions) it’s no surprise that the Steelers won both games.
“Last year we had musical chairs at the quarterback position and we were still able to win games, still able to play good football and that’s what we have to do now”, linebacker D’Qwell Jackson said. He suffered a concussion in Week 11, and Scott Tolzien will start in his place. Big Ben will be in the QB1 discussion next week against the Giants. “Not too many guys better than him”. Andrew Luck is out with a concussion. Tailback Le’Veon Bell ran for 120 yards and a touchdown. I am not sold on this game as the line is huge for a road team in prime time but I just don’t see any way that Tolzien can keep the Colts close and as such I have to take the juice on the Steelers. The Colts behind early against a unsafe offense, and the Colts’ offense wasn’t able to put up the points needed to hang with them. Colts starting safety Clayton Geathers (concussion) also has been ruled out of Thursday’s game. The Steelers have gotten the most of the Colts in their previous two matchups, but if Thanksgiving history continues to repeat itself, the Steelers will fall to 1-7 on Turkey Day.
