Rounding out the top four is the Clemson Tigers who dropped from number two following their upset loss at home to the Pittsburgh Panthers.
The Kellner Points Index indicates Texas A&M could fall 14 spots after losing at home to MS, while USC is projected to move up nine spots after defeating then-No. MI remains at No. 3 despite suffering its first loss, 14-13 at Iowa. The Jayhawks still lost their 19th straight Big 12 game and first-year Iowa State coach Matt Campbell got his first conference victory after a bunch of near misses.
Alabama remained No. 1 again this week, followed by Ohio State at No. 2. The three and four spots are anyone’s guess, but Clemson stays in the top four at three with Louisville locked in at four.
Alabama (10-0) remains No. 1 followed by Ohio State (9-1), MI (9-1) and Clemson (9-1). The committee does not want to put two teams from the same conference in the playoff unless it is “demonstrably clear” that the second entry is one of the top four teams.
Joining Washington and Utah from the Pac-12 in the rankings is Colorado at No. 10, USC at No. 13, Washington State at No. 22, and Stanford at No. 24. Boise State’s 31-28 victory on September 10 over Washington State looks better as the Cougars are 8-2 while EMU is 6-4.
There was at least one College Football Playoff-shaking result on a Saturday when all the contenders were big favorites. The only other ACC team with a shot at the #Playoffs is Lamar Jackson and the Louisville Cardinals, and Clemson has already beat them head-to-head. USC (7-3) 14. West Virginia Mountaineers (8-1) 15. Louisville 9-1 1357 5 4. Though behind Boise State, Western Michigan (10-0) joins Alabama as the only undefeated FBS teams. Boise State jumping an undefeated team is interesting but the committee is likely taking a lot of stock in the Washington State victory that Boise State earned back in September.
