8 in College Football Playoff rankings

November 28 07:49 2016

As of now, anyway. 2, 3 and 4 lost, Ohio State vaulted to No. 2 in Tuesday night’s College Football Playoff rankings.

The top seven in this week’s Associated Press poll, in order, are Alabama, Ohio State, Louisville, Michigan, Clemson, Wisconsin and Washington. The final tally for the Scarlet Knights in three games against Michigan, Ohio State and Michigan State: 185 points allowed.

“The Game” will actually take place on November 26 in front of a sold out Ohio Stadium. The Wolverines do have three wins against teams in the top 10 this week, all at home, of course.

Following Michigan’s loss to Iowa, Alabama is now a unanimous choice for the top spot.

Louisville is No. 5 on my ballot, and since Ohio State and MI are still to play, the Cardinals would have a legitimate shot of making my final top 4. Clemson beat Louisville on October 1 at home.

Washington remains the leading team for the Pac-12, falling from No. 4 to No. 6 in the latest rankings. The teams meet Saturday in a showdown in Morgantown, W.Va. A win vaults WVU into the top 10, though the logic of having OU so much further up is a bit confusing. The AP Top 25 poll, however, featured few significant changes.

“Get the four best teams”, Fisher said. Their loss at Georgia ended any hope they had of stealing the SEC crown from Alabama. But, they still have quite a bit of quality wins under their belt.

Some U of L players didn’t appear happy with the new rankings.

Western Michigan, the only undefeated team besides Alabama, is #21 this week. Wyoming is a home underdog to San Diego State this week.

With two games left against unranked Wake Forest and SC in the regular season, Clemson’s final test would be the ACC title game against either North Carolina or Virginia Tech. Given this week’s rankings, Western Michigan needs that to happen. Tonight, #2 Clemson, #3 MI and #4 Washington all lost games. Louisville 6. Washington 7.

5 p.m. ET: Rose Bowl Game Presented by Northwestern Mutual: No. 7 Wisconsin vs. No. 12 Colorado and No. 13 Oklahoma State each moved up four spots.Colorado has its highest ranking since it was No. 12 on December 1, 2002. Colorado’s last two games come against WSU this week and No. 12 Utah in its season finale. Another team worth keeping an eye on is 14th ranked West Virginia, who still only has one loss. Ohio State prevailed but would be upset by current Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer and his Florida Gators. Boise St. 9-1 315 24 23. W. MI 10-0 634 14 15.
