‘Nervous’ Woods ready for his comeback

November 29 10:33 2016

Poulter tees up for the first time in a European Tour event in 10 months at the season opening Australian PGA after a lengthy recovery from a foot injury. His reappearance is cause for celebration but also for trepidation, since his more recent performances have veered between farce and tragedy.

Woods added: “It’s weird to say, but I have to get my walking legs. Thankfully I’m off of those, I haven’t had them for four months and I feel good”. Golf’s Gretzky was sitting out because he was scared of slipping on the ice. Ive seen him on video.

A rare Monday night golf tournament at Bighorn Golf Club.

And although he understands that thought of thinking, he spoke of his competitiveness spirit driving him on.

Tiger Woods is back…

The 14-time major victor, who is now ranked 898th in the world, has not featured since August 2015 after undergoing surgery twice on his back.

Granted, the pick of his efforts have come under much more demanding conditions than these, but a final-round 64 for eighth place previous year shows what he can do here in the Bahamas, where he had to recover from two-over through three.

His play quickly degenerated from poor to putrid.

No matter if Woods hasn’t won a tournament since 2013’s Bridgestone Invitiational, his presence still moves the ratings needle, this despite being now listed 898th in the world golf rankings. Three of his five events prior to that had resulted in early exits from the US Open, the Open Championship and the US PGA Championship.

– If Woods tees it up at the Hero World Challenge, it will have been exactly 466 days since his last competitive appearance, on August 23 2015 at the Wyndham Championship when he finished tied-10th. Since returning from surgery, it’s the only golf shoe Woods has worn.

Els is more curious about what’s going on in his head. A month later, there was a follow-up procedure.

This is a daunting stage for a comeback.

But for Woods – who in his absence has slipped to 879th in the world – this is a big deal. For now, he is sticking with his Nike irons and experimenting with various woods – it was a TaylorMade driver, 3-wood and 5-wood and Sunday – and he dropped a bit of news when he said he’s using a Bridgestone golf ball this week.? Rory McIlroy has the most weeks at No. 1 of any active golfer with 95, but with so much parity among golf’s elite, it’s highly unlikely any one player will stay atop the ranking for long. Among all the talk of how close Woods and his team felt he was to returning to competition health and with a viable game, some fans seem to have adopted a “wake me up when he actually hits a shot” mentality. I knew Tobie and I were on to something special back when I tried on the first prototype.

Tell that to the Vegas bookies. He’s been utterly lost for three years, and struggling for a damn sight longer. It moved to the Sherwood Country Club in California in 2000 and remained there for the next 14 years before it switched from west to east and to the Isleworth Golf and Country Club in Florida in 2014.

Tiger Woods and Derek Jeter were rookies in their respective sports 20 years ago – Woods in golf and Jeter in baseball. His last victory on the PGA tour came in 2013.

You snooze you lose Did Damien Delaney nod off during the final minutes of one of the most epic Prem games ever?

“The stuff that he’s done in his career, to be able to win the amount of events that he’s won by the margin that he used to win them, he doesn’t need his A game”. Apart from a defeated Hillary Clinton, a lot has changed since ’08. His competitors are younger, stronger and longer than he is, and not at all intimidated. Woods can only dream of finishing a career like that; he knows that never happens in golf.

Locked in a battle for the lead with one of his fiercest rivals, Vijay Singh, both contenders were in trouble at the 14th as they faced testing chips just to get up and down for bogey. The nightmare scenario-the scourge of short-game yips ravaging him anew-is too ominous to bear thinking about.

Since 2015, Tiger was endured multiple back surgeries. On the second trip, Woods went 18 holes each of four consecutive days, simulating a tournament round as much as he could with LaCava on the bag.

“I can’t wait to watch, either, just to see him play”, Ryder Cup captain and three-time Greensboro victor Davis Love III said.
