Giving Tuesday is a day that comes after Black Friday and Cyber Monday and essentially kicks off the charitable season.
“When you’re doing your research make sure that when you’re looking up a charity, that’s the one that you’re intended to look up and what we mean is many of these phony charities like to use names that are very similar to a legitimate charity“, she said. “GivingTuesday is increasingly seen as a time to turn our attention to the community and support our charities of choice”. They also learn that making a sacrifice for something you and they care about is gratifying and important. “It’s a gift that goes all year long and it’s a gift that can make a difference in someone’s life”. Creating a culture of philanthropy starts at home.
#GivingTuesday is the brainchild of New York City’s 92nd Street Y, which, along with the United Nations Foundation, designated the 24-hour period as a time for consumers to encourage each other through social media to donate their time, talents or cash to a cause or organization. You don’t have to be from Missouri to give; anyone can venture to the website and offer a donation for those families in need.
Created in New York City, #GivingTuesday connects individuals, communities and organizations around the world for one common goal: to celebrate and encourage giving.
There are many ways to give, including volunteering to assist with fundraisers or giving your time to serve those in need.
Share how you are giving back on #GivingTuesday by posting your #UNselfie. For example, your veterinarian could suggest a good animal-related charity, and an environmental scientist at your local university could suggest a climate-oriented organization.
Q: How do you decide which organizations or causes to support? .
Among those resources is a link from givingtuesday.org to nearby charities that have registered as participating in the fund drive.
No matter how you give, when you do, consider sharing the news of your generosity with those around you. You can use the #GivingTuesday #UNselfie sign and toolkit to get started! Your charity will inspire others to do the same.
