Tim Ryan to retain her post as the top elected Democrat in the House during a closed-door meeting Wednesday.
While Ryan’s fellow Ohioan Marcia Fudge publicly backed Ryan, Rep. Joyce Beatty, D-Jefferson Township, voted for Pelosi.

“We talk more about free-range chickens than we do working people on the Democratic side sometimes”, Representative Stephen Lynch of MA said before the vote. “He didn’t lose today”. “Today, we won. We may not have won the position, but we won a caucus”.
For their part, Ryan and his backers insisted after the vote that they had won a victory in sending a message to Pelosi about the significant desire for change among House Democrats.
“Nancy Pelosi’s one of the smartest politicians I know and I think she will take away from this challenge I think the right lessons”, he said.

Pelosi sent several missives to colleagues in recent days, promising to shake up the way she oversees House Democrats, including providing more opportunities for more junior members to participate in leadership decisions.
