With a sharpshooter like Thompson flanking Curry and KD on the wing, opposing defenses don’t have a chance, and the best part is, none of it feels forced. Curry, who was sitting on the bench, sprinted back and forth in front of coach Steve Kerr, then jumped into his teammates’ arms, and then ultimately made a decision to run into the tunnel for a few seconds. It was an easy call and three easy points for Thompson. In his first game action since November 23, Paul George scored 16 points.
Alas, it never came, and Golden State ended up outscoring IN 26-23 IN the final 12 minutes even with its stars on the bench. Those nine words rippled through social media and left many questioning his motives. So, what would have happened if Thompson stayed in the game? When he departed the game, fans gave him a standing ovation for putting together a historical night. “That stuff is fun”.
When the Golden State Warriors signed Kevin Durant over the summer, many rightfully assumed that Klay Thompson would lose shots and opportunities to the former MVP. The movement was too much for the Pacers to defend, and Thompson had his choice of shooting from the perimeter and attacking the basket.
The Cavs had looked to be easing to victory after opening up a 15-point lead in the fourth quarter.
DeMar DeRozan had 31 points for Toronto, which had won its previous six-games. Although Thompson’s cold snaps can be frigid, his hot streaks can summon the surreal. The Warriors’ superstar who seems untouchable is then suggested to flee his team and head onto a roster where he can once again bring out the impeccable player in him. Although he might be unconscious, his teammates are highly aware of what’s happening.
Klay Thompson’s performances this season have gone under the radar as the superstar duo of Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant have taken center stage. He didn’t let up in the second quarter, scoring 23 to end up with 40 first half points, pushing Golden State up, 80-50, at the break. The Pacers were on a back-to-back in this game, and aren’t very good anyway, but seeing what the Warriors are capable of really does leave you breathless.
Before it was surreal, it was workmanlike. I got nothing but respect for Paul. “That always opens up my game, and whenever I’m active off the ball, that’s when I’m at my best”.
Howard Beck of Bleacher Report reflected on the slower start by Thompson’s incredible standards in light of Monday’s outing: “Remember when people thought the Warriors couldn’t keep four stars happy and anxious about Klay’s ‘slump?’ That was fun”.
