Fire trapped people on second floor

Thirty-two victims’ families have been notified of their deaths, while three were being informed as of Wednesday afternoon.

Officials hope to create a virtual, 3D reconstruction of the building for criminal and civil investigations and to provide answers to family members about their loved ones’ last moments, Alameda County sheriff’s Sgt. With recovery efforts now over, authorities have focused on the cause of the devastation. Fire officials started knocking down parts of the building that they said were structurally unsound.

The 36 people who died were trapped on the second floor of the building.

City officials were expected to have a press conference at the city’s emergency operations center later Wednesday, but they have not announced a time.

But uncovering the origins of the fire “will take a microscopic examination of the appliances and the wiring”, Daly said.

Along the route, there was music and prayer but when pilgrims were near the location of the fire, the music was silenced out of respect, Medina said, noting the only sounds were those of prayer.

“Have there been any upgrades to the electrical system or is this the original wiring?”

The fire has raised concerns about nonpermitted dwellings throughout the city. The Oakland warehouse, known as the Ghost Ship, was not zoned for residential use. “Although the rest of the residents made it out alive, they had lost not only their possessions but also their creative homes and art space”. Not seeing construction on the vacant lot, inspectors dismissed the complaint, he said.

Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf said late Tuesday the inspector followed procedure and later sent a request to the owner to gain entry. Authorities believe they will be able to clear and remove all debris removal by midnight; however some structural sections need to be removed. At the show, which will feature a number of local musicians-including Kurt Porter and Leslie Victoria, Cado, Christian Vela, Bird and Willow, Chris Reed, and Claymoon-Springall will be asking for collections to pass along to those directly affected by the Ghost Ship fire.
