Dreaming of a white Christmas? Weather forecasters say it’s unlikely

Forecasters are tracking the weather system a month after Storm Angus brought 80mph winds, heavy rain and flooding.

On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, temperatures should be above average for much of the eastern two-thirds of the nation, AccuWeather said.

Storm Barbara is expected to bring extremely windy and wet conditions, while there will be a risk of stormy conditions in coastal counties of Connacht and Ulster.

OVER 650 homes were left without power yesterday as storm Barbara batters Scotland amid warnings of 90mph gales and 10cm snowfall.

Until next October, every major storm will be named according to the list, which is ordered alphabetically.

Amber warnings – meaning “be prepared” – are in place in for north-west Scotland from around midday Friday until around 6am on Christmas eve. It brought gales of 80 miles per hour on the South Coast and gusts of up to 97mph, leaving 2,000 homes without power and making conditions hazardous at sea.
