Apple’s Mac has a roadmap with ‘great desktops’ headed our way

The answers from Cook in Apple Web included some of the topics like whether Mac desktops were still strategically important for Apple, and why it is required to connect with governments referring to the recent meeting with US President-elect Donald Trump that saw Silicon Valley’s most powerful executives come together.

Cook reassured Apple employees that nobody should worry about the issue.

2016 was a rough year for those of us who love Apple’s desktops. For a number of reasons, Cook views desktops as “really important, and in some cases critical, to people”.

The Bloomberg Technology report, which casts serious doubt on the Mac’s place in the Apple hierarchy, says the proposed battery failed a test early this year. Comments made by Tim Cook were posted to Apple’s internal employee message board, which were then obtained and verified by TechCrunch on 19 December. “Instead, the company is preparing modest updates: USB-C ports and a new Advanced Micro Devices Inc. graphics processor for the iMac, and minor bumps in processing power for the 12-inch MacBook and MacBook Pro”.

Apple held a Mac-focused event in October where some had speculated the company might announce new desktops.

Rather than hint at innovations that are coming, Cook also merely touted the current iMac’s credentials such as its 5K display, indicating that the company is perfectly happy with it.

Arment, previously Tumblr’s lead developer and the creator of Instapaper, knows the Mac Pro well, having bought them in the past.

The same, of course, could be said of the Mac mini, which has been left out of the update cycle almost as long as the Pro.

“We very much stand up for what we believe in”, Cook said in his memo.

The CEO of Apple talked about the many benefits that desktop computers have over laptops, with the most obvious of these being the bigger display, storage and memory. The Mac Pro in particular is a sort point, since it’s being sold with the exact same specs, and its price hasn’t change since it launched three years ago.

While the statement seems to confirm Cook’s intention to continue the iMac line, there is still no official announcement regarding the release of the iMac 2017.

The all-in-one iMac, the high-end device in Apple’s Mac line-up, is the most up-to-date device, with the 2015 model getting a 5K retina option just past year.
