What is the true meaning of Christmas?

December 22 09:03 2016

“Doesn’t it make you feel good to see how happy your gift made him feel?”

I call these propositions about Jesus “the essentials of Christian faith”.

This Christmas, may we not be afraid to gladly do for Jesus by doing for others, even those with whom we strongly disagree.

The news of these “lost” strangers from the East who were enquiring of the birth of the King of Righteousness was bad news for Herod and it caused him to tremble in his boots.

Joseph went from Galilee, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, with Mary to whom he was engaged, to be taxed. The virgin’s name was Mary.

Beyond these peoples, the solstice has traditionally been marked by festivities in cultures from all around the world, often involving gift giving and forced family time. The Lord is with you. No matter your beliefs we can all show love and kindness.

Jesus descends from a long line of people, but he also comes down from heaven as the Son of God. The festival we now call Christmas was directly preceded by pagan winter festivals such as Saturnalia and Yule, and numerous most popular aspects of modern Christmas, such as Christmas trees, Christmas decorations, Mistletoe, and Santa Claus, originate from these pre-Christian traditions.

Matthew relates the other birth narrative about Jesus in the New Testament. Joseph, despite the constant murmuring that Mary was unfaithful took her to be his wife. Joseph was troubled by this. They opened the containers where they carried their treasures and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

An angel of the Lord appeared before them, and a bright light shined all around them. 20-21). This latter clause signifies the meaning of Jesus name. It is in Isaiah 7.14.

Instead, they put forward the idea that December 25 is actually related to the date of Jesus’ conception and death.

Different scenes were depicted leading up to the nativity and briefly elaborated by Cranna, who quoted the bible.

Centuries upon centuries of preparation preceded the birth of Jesus. When we know him as our Saviour, we know his gracious presence and help always and can face every situation in life.

Secondly, our view of Santa at the centre of Christmas demonstrates our deep desire for works-righteousness, but ignores that we are utterly hopeless if we trust in our own abilities.

Finally, believing in the resurrection of Jesus brings new life to our hearts. No, there is no such text.

“Mary Baker Eddy, author of “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures”, writes in her book: “‘This is life eternal, ‘ says Jesus-is, not shall be; and then he defines everlasting life as a present knowledge of his Father and of himself, -the knowledge of Love, Truth, and Life”. They mean early church communities surely would have included in their oral tradition-which preceded the synoptic gospels-these birth narratives about Jesus in Matthew and Luke. By the way, even though I tried to convince him differently, I am pretty sure he now thinks that is the same hotel where Mary and Joseph tried to get a room. Covet these words as Mary did, “pondering them in her heart”.
