Residents encouraged to recycle at Christmas

In Cape Girardeau the Public Works Department says they are here to help. “They also support each of the volunteer groups that man our six collection sites around town”, Czarnecki said.

In Montgomery County, Christmas trees are picked up for collection throughout the year.

Morris Williams Jr. with the City of Midland said this also allows for the trees to stay out the trash cans and alleys in Midland.

In Fairfax County: Christmas trees will be collected between January 1 and January 16 for recycling. Make sure you remove all lights and ornaments from your tree before disposing of it. Republic Services, which provides waste disposal for many metro-east communities, has issued a “naughty and nice” list for what is and is not recyclable from holiday waste. Christmas trees are not recyclable through the Blue Cart program, and city officials are reminding citizens that Christmas trees left in back alleys will not be collected.

“A cut dry pine tree potential with Mylar and tissue embedded on it is a fire risk”.

If you’re looking for a more adventurous way to recycle that tree, why not turn it into a fish habitat in Lake Hartwell or Lake Thurmond?

Place the tree at your normal trash collection location.

Any Johnson County resident can call customer service at 913-971-9311 to schedule an appointment to drop off electronic waste free of charge!

Several Wake County locations accept undecorated Christmas trees through January 22, 2017. If you live in an HOA or an incorporated town, check to see how and when curbside collection will be done.
