Late in the evening on Tuesday, Swansea City announced that the club had made a decision to part ways with manager Bob Bradley only 11 games since his appointment.
Bradley said the fear that Premier League clubs would be dissuaded from appointing American managers in future were he to fail at Swansea was untrue.
“We are sorry to lose Bob after such a short period of time, ” confirmed Swans chairman Huw Jenkins.
“Jason and Steve are good men, they’ve been successful in business, but sports, football and business don’t always work exactly the same way”, Bradley told BBC Radio Wales. The most recent of those defeats came this past Boxing Day, when Swansea went down 4-1 to West Ham at Liberty Stadium.
The Swans have conceded 41 goals in 18 games, with the side shipping 29 of those goals in Bradley’s 11 games in charge, and they are looking at defensive reinforcements to try to shore up their porous defence.
Bradley managed the U.S., Egypt and Stabaek in Norway before leaving French second division club Le Havre to succeed Francesco Guidolin, who had himself only been appointed in January.
Swansea is next to last in the standings (table), only above Hull on goal difference (goal difference).
“There were people on the outside that for no apparent reason took shots but I was never bothered by that, it was always going to be part of the game when an American got the chance”. I believe in my work and I certainly knew I was going into a hard situation.
The Bob Bradley era at Swansea City is over.
Bob Bradley hasn’t silently drifted away from the Premier League. You go there and the atmosphere is absolutely fantastic for their games at home.
Harry Redknapp suggests that he is interested in the vacant managerial position at Swansea City, describing the job as “a good challenge”.
“There I was enjoying my year out … and I get the call off Swansea”, reflected Giggs. Swansea’s transfer dealings in the offseason have turned out to be inadequate, selling Ashley Williams and Andre Ayew – its stalwart captain and top scorer from last season, respectively – and not replacing them with the same quality or experience.
