Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., to be remembered at Salisbury VA

“It’s really a time for us to more fully and intentionally remember the hard work of Martin Luther King Jr. and the civil rights movement”, he said. Day is Monday, Jan. 16, commemorating the the birth of the American civil rights leader and Nobel Peace Prize victor on Jan. 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Ga.

According to the organizers, the “march is in recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and achievements”.

Coretta Scott King – the widow of civil-rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. – implored Congress to block Jeff Sessions’ 1986 nomination for federal judge. On Jan. 29, they will perform at 9:30 a.m.at True Bethel Baptist Church, 907 E. Ferry St., and at 10:30 a.m.at St. John Baptist Church, 184 Goodell St. “We’re just going to celebrate Martin Luther King in every way possible”. The Center also places interested students, including work-study students, in tutoring positions in Bibb County through the America Reads/America Counts Program, and works to support the University’s student-led service organizations, as well. On Thursday, Jan. 26, the school’s Black Student Alliance will host a “Know Your Rights” dinner and panel discussion from 7 to 8 p.m.in the same location. Visitors are invited to make their own “I am a …” poster using materials supplied by the museum. The weekend-long celebration kicks off on Friday, January 13, 2017 and ends on January 16, 2017 with events including the MLK Celebration Fair, the MLK Candlelight Ceremony, the MLK Awards Gala, and the Annual MLK Day Parade. Week will be held from Jan. 16 to Saturday, Jan. 21.

It was the first night of celebrations leading up to Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
