Nintendo Switch Controller Options, Compatibility: What controllers support the Switch?

January 13 23:00 2017

One of the most highly anticipated events from the world of video games played out last night (here in the States, anyway) as Nintendo brass unveiled an extensive look at their brand-new gaming system, the Nintendo Switch. “Online play will be free for Nintendo Account holders until our paid online service launches in fall 2017″.

The Switch console uses a tablet-sized screen with detachable controllers on each side.

The company has promised the Switch would offer a more interactive experience for users through online playing and games that don’t require people to stare at a display.

Mario Kart” and “Splatoon” are bright spots in an otherwise bleak landscape when it comes to Nintendo’s proficiency in online play with home consoles. A limited version of the app is also launching for free this summer.

The Nintendo Switch has been revealed ahead of a March 3rd United Kingdom release date – as have final specs for the hybrid system, including its battery life.

The Nintendo Switch will feature an Online Service new to Nintendo consoles. Online connectivity on Microsoft’s Xbox has had a fee since its inception in 2002.

What is the Nintendo Switch presentation?

The one big problem with the Nintendo Switch – arguably big enough to potentially sink the system – is the price. On the day of launch, Nintendo promises that there will be eight (yep, just eight) titles to choose from, including The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – there’s also Super Mario Odyssey to look forward to.

Thankfully, you won’t have to save up many pennies as the Nintendo Switch only costs $299.99. A third gameplay option lets multiple players play on the go with the Joy-Con controllers on the portable display.

That’s because Nintendo’s Switch Presentation 2017 event kicks off tonight (Jan. 12) at 11 p.m. ET, live from Tokyo.
