Online court records in Colleton County, where Walterboro is located, said Bolden had been charged with disturbing the peace in September 1998, a time when Jacksonville police were still looking urgently for the vanished baby Kamiyah.
“It was a shock”, said Libby Thurston, owner of Thurston’s Barber Shop.
Walterboro police on Friday arrested Williams as a fugitive from justice.
“I always hoped and prayed this day would happen”, the woman’s biological father, Craig Aiken, said.
“There are lots of questions left unanswered”, Williams said. Authorities could not be reached to confirm that.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said that Kamiyah Mobley was not home on Friday morning when the women she knew as her mother was arrested.
The search for the missing infant gained national attention. DNA taken from the victim this week was confirmed Thursday night to be a match with the kidnapped newborn.
She may have known she was a kidnapping victim, the sheriff’s office said.
Offered Sheriff Williams: ‘It is as complicated an investigation as you can imagine‘. “I can’t even begin to comprehend it”.
It’s nearly unheard of for a missing child to be found 18 years later, so people are understandably incredibly impressed by the police’s work.
Unfortunately, since the kidnapper could only be seen on grainy hospital video, the case quickly went cold.
News of Kamiyah being found alive made her biological family understandably ecstatic. The facility is now called UF Health Jacksonville Medical Center. Missing child resources, tips and Kamiyah Mobley’s own suspicions helped lead the authorities to her location, Williams said.
Officials are not releasing the name that the missing girl has been living under.
An 18-year-old woman taken from a United States hospital hours after she was born has learned her true identity and been reunited with her birth family. Exactly how and when she’ll reconnect with them is up to her.
Shanara Mobley was 16 in 1998, when she handed her newborn to a woman in scrubs and a smock who claimed to be a nurse and said Kamiyah needed to be checked for a fever.
