Chelsea coach Antonio Conte is adamant that news of a bid for Diego Costa from Chinese Super League club Tianjin Quanjian is “only speculation” after reports of a row between the two emerged on Friday. Noble went on to say that he thinks Slaven Bilic’s handling of the matter has been correct but he can’t work out why Payet would want to leave. The club tried out Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o before finally locking on to Diego Costa.
“We start our training session on Tuesday and next week we will see”.
Away from the Costa grumblings, Chelsea are keeping a sharp eye out on the situation happening at West Ham between the club and Dimitri Payet.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich doesn’t want to sell Costa but if the player demands an exit then the Blues are likely to cash in on him – even if the deal does not happen until the summer.
The Premier League match between Leicester City and Chelsea will be broadcast live on NBC. The defending champs now sit in 15th place in the league table, and have won only one game in their last five.
“I don’t know anything about this (Chinese offer)”, he said.
“It was a good performance and a good reaction [after the defeat at Tottenham Hotspur]”, he added. But there’s very little that makes sense about Costa going to China (both in personal terms between him and Conte, as well as competitive reasons) and it’s the latter that Conte’s banking on when addressing all these rumors floating around at the moment.
Chelsea showed that they have the quality to win without Diego Costa against Leicester City, according to Thibaut Courtois. But boss Claudio Ranieri insists his players have the stomach for a relegation battle. “This team is used to fighting”.
“We had an fantastic run of winning 13 straight and I think that’s very good”, he added. “I prefer to solve the problem in the changing room”.
“It’s a different way of playing against Robert Huth and Wes Morgan because they are tall and there is no point in giving long balls to Eden or Pedro but we did well and the early goal helped us to control the game”.
However, Scholes feels that Chelsea are the clear favourites to win the Premier League title this season ahead of Manchester United’s game against Liverpool.
